With the popularity of Bridgerton, why didn't they make the covers still be in historical clothing and have the forewords written by historical romance authors? Maybe because historical is not a popular booktok genre? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm not on tiktok so I don't really know. But I do remember being an 11 year old who picked up her first historical romance (adult romance) because of the gowns on the cover!

Yeah it’s definitely a grab for booktok attention and they don’t read historical much. Although they know Bridgerton. But if they want to use adult romance authors (big names like they did) don’t call it YA then? Like you I also love the dresses so I don’t understand why not use that for easy visual representation.

Great post! PRH has money to burn so it doesn't matter. If it does sell, these books are in the public domain so the scammers will follow soon after.

I didn’t even think about those ramifications. My brain is hurting with the AI cover possibilities we will see.

Honestly, the only one word that comes to my mind : Unnecessary. If the kids dont want to pick up a classic, a Julie Soto like cover wont make them pick up a classic. It's a pretty collectible but that's about it.

Agreed, I don't think this will hit the desired target the way they are thinking. Who is running these marketing departments?

I've seen some weird Austen covers- there's actually a book just for the variety of Austen covers, but I agree this is a huge gamble. I agree its odd to use widely-known contemporary romance authors instead of YA authors for the intros if their target is YA audiences.
